Objectives
Apart from general competences common to other subjects of the master's degree, this subject proposes, specifically, the ability to understand and prepare reports of geopolitical and strategic nature according to the specific methods and techniques of this type of documents. The most relevant learning outcomes acquired by the student are: - Applied knowledge to analyze geopolitical and strategic issues. - Ability to select indicators and measures to assess geopolitical and strategic issues. - Ability to present information in a graphic, written and oral way. - Ability to prepare and develop a scientific report in the field of geopolitics and strategic studies.
Description of contents: programme
- Introduction to the workshop - What is a report? Type of reports, objective, audience, success criteria - The process to write a report - Structure and writing of a report - Geopolitical videos: features and how to write a script - Geopolitical analysis with Big Data, tools and development to feed geopolitical reports with data - Development of national and regional geopolitical reports, focused on a country risk analysis perspective
Learning activities and methodology
The subject combines theoretical / interactive sessions and practical sessions. The first ones present the essential aspects of the subjects of the course, while the practical activities will focus on the resolution of practical cases, sometimes in the computer room, the exhibition and discussion in class and the elaboration of papers reports individually or in a group. The tutorials will be in person and by video. The student can also use the email to communicate with the professors. ----TEACHING SYSTEM FOR 2020-21 UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS--- In accordance with the teaching model approved for 2020-21, under normal conditions the Master in Geopolitics and Strategic Studies will be taught On Campus (Face-to-Face classes). In order to ensure the prevention and social distancing measures in classrooms. the courses with a number of students enrolled higher than the capacity of the classroom will have a Weekly Rotating System for the face-to face classes combined with synchronous online teaching system. All students must have the necessary equipment to follow classes remotely (device with internet connection). Due to the restrictions in the use of computer rooms on Campus it may be necessary to take your own computer equipment for its use in the classroom. * Students that cannot attend to On Campus classes at the beginning of the academic year, due to difficulties or delays obtaining their visas, border closures, or similar issues, will be able to follow classes in a Synchronous Online Teaching system until they are able to arrive to On Campus classes.
