Objectives
Students will learn: How documentary rhetoric works in a different kind of "factual" audiovisual narratives. The political and ideological implications of factual narratives and their modes of reception. The historical evolution documentary film and its main features. The evolution and transformations of the documentary genre in the digital context.

1. Introduction to the notion of documentary: historical and epistemological questions 2. Narrating reality?: Mise-en-scène and rhetorical mediation 3. Boundaries of documentary film 4. Imaginaries of documentary film 5. Documentary and historical narratives 6. "Documentary effect" and modes of reception 7. Recaps and discussion of projects
Learning activities and methodology
Learnig activities Master class Practical sessions: Teamwork Individual work Workshops and seminars Methodology: Master Class are intended to develop critical skills among students. They incorporate case studies, textual and audiovisual analysis, presentations and discussions, and the elaboration of brief essays (audiovisual or textual). Homework assignments include the creation of short audiovisual pieces, critical readings, and rhetorical structure analysis.
