Objectives
The course is aimed to introduce the student to the spanish language (for basic level students), or to improve it (for intermediate level students) , by learning the essentials of the Spanish grammar and lexicon. The student will be also familiarized with the Spanish culture and customes. The course will provide the student with a basic knowledge of the spanish language, as well as of the Spanish culture and customes.
Skills and learning outcomes
Description of contents: programme
1. Introduction and assessment of the student level. 2. Ser y estar. The descriptive adjectives, articles and personal pronouns. 3. Possessives. Gender and nouns (singular and plural). 4. Present tense (regular and irregular verbs). Tener / Deber. Gustar / odiar / preferir. 5. Past tenses. 6. Verbs of change (ponerse, hacerse, convertirse). Verbs with prepositions. 7. Future tense and conditional. 8. Imperative. 9. Subjunctive. * Spanish culture: the spanish family; free time; the spanish university; festivals and traditions; gastronomy; job market.
Learning activities and methodology
* Teaching Methods: Classroom lectures and practical sessions consisting of exercises and activities proposed by the lecture and carried out by the student, as well as listening and conversation sessions. * Course Material: Spanish handbook suggested by the lecture in the beginning of the course according to the level of the students. Lecture notes provided by the lecturer in class together with exercises and suggested activities (listening, conversation, etc).
