Basic knowledge of general chemistry and its applications in engineering.
Objectives
The main objective of this subject is to introduce the student to the current trends in the extractive and synthesis industry to achieve more sustainable industrial processes, focusing on the following fundamental aspects: Bases of chemical process engineering. Optimization processes and techniques. Industrial processes aimed at obtaining and extracting substitute raw renewable raw materials Improvement of the sustainability of traditional industrial processes.
Skills and learning outcomes
Description of contents: programme
Introduction. Basic concepts. Green chemistry and green engineering. Industrial ecology and sustainability. From green chemistry to sustainable industrial chemistry. Concept of optimization and intensification in industrial processes. Bases of industrial chemical engineering: Balances of matter and energy, concept of unit operations, kinetics and catalysis. Design of Sustainable Industrial Processes. Main unit operations. Optimization of industrial processes. Advanced membrane technologies, integrated and hybrid systems. Retrofitting of traditional processes through the Circular Economy. Examples in different industrial sectors. Aspects related to logistics, management, and economy.
Learning activities and methodology
Master classes in the classroom (face-to-face). Practical classes (face-to-face). Numerical exercises and study of practical cases in the classroom. Individual and group work of students. It may include exercises, questions, laboratory or simulation practices, bibliographical works, case studies, etc.
