Description of contents: programme
This course attempts to provide an approach to literary phenomenon and particularly to historical variability, systemic plurality and textual complexity. Diversity will be considered in the focus that will allow the student to address the main matters regarding reading a text analysis. By the end of the course the student should be able to: -Recognize and know the main texts of the history of literature as well as critical and theoretical perspectives of literature. -Discuss a text from an intratextual dimension paying particular attention to literary strategies that form a literary work as well as from a historical and systemic dimension, relating the text to capital aesthetics and poetics. -Develop an analytical conscience when interpreting a literary phenomenon and its cultural framework as well as excercising critical reading. Brief description of contents: - Definition of literature and study of the main analytical tools of literary discourse. An approach to literary communication: from production to reception. - Stylistics. An introduction to literary style: main rhetorical figures. -Methodology: how to discuss a literary text. Analysis of different aspects of the text. How to write a literary commentary. - Literary genres. Tipology and definition. Poetry, drama, novel and story. Canonization and dynamism. An approximation to minor genres in present culture. - Introductory aspects regarding the division of time into literary periods. The evolution of literature throughout history. Main movements and tendencies from antiquity until nowadays. A selection of literary texts (fragments) and literary criticsm texts will be provided.
