Objectives
General aims of the subject ¿Political Philosophy¿ 1.- Understanding the role of politics in society in general. 2.- Studying the relevant concepts needed to understand politics. 3.- Analysing political problems and situations from an interdisciplinary approach. 4.- Studying the works of the more relevant political thinkers in History. 5.- Facilitating analysis and debate and ethical valoration of current political problems and possible solutions 6.- Appreciation of the need to understand and evaluate politics from an intellectual, critical and rigorous view. Specific aspects on which the student will be assessed 1.- Knowledge and understanding of the various topics covered in the program 2.- Analytical capacity and critical perspective 3.- Relating political problems to other aspects of society. 4.- Rigorous approach to different questions and academic effort

Lecture 1.- Concept of Politics Lecture 2.- Ethics and Politics Lecture 3.- Law and Political Power. The reason of State. Rule of Law and its evolution. The crisis of welfare state and the role of civil society. Lecture 4.- Freedom, equality and Fundamental rights. Contemporary Theories of Justice Lecture 5.- Political obligation and Obedience to Law. Civil disobedience Lecture 6.- Models of Democracy. Cosmopolitanism and cultural diversity
Learning activities and methodology
1.-Theory sessions These sessions comprise the Professors explanatory lectures. Each Lecture will include a Power Point presentation. This presentation will be uploaded to Aula Global after the class. 2.-Practice sessions In each session, one or two students will analyze a text, adopting for the presentation the format: a) Context; b) Summary; c) Analysis and commentary. A Power Point presentation will be subsequently made. All students will then collectively discuss the text and the questions raised in the discussion guide. The Power Point presentation will be uploaded to Aula Global and subsequently evaluated by the Professor.
