Objectives
1. Understand that the study of the past, although it does not inexorably mark the paths that are going to be followed in the future, does allow, through the explanation of the present, to be in the best possible disposition to face that future. 2. Know the economic, political, social and cultural reality of the time from a comparative perspective. 3. Know and understand the processes of political, social, economic and cultural change in the society of the time. 4. Develop the ability to identify, organize and analyze relevant information critically and systematically on current and past sources. 5. Develop the ability to debate and formulate critical reasoning.

1. The origin of Modern Times in the Peninsula: The Catholic Monarchs. Spanish Modernity. The union of the two Crowns. Reconquest and Conquest. The new monarchy: Socio-economic features. Institutional aspects. Religious policy. Foreign policy. 2. The Hispanic Monarchy: Political and institutional aspects. Royal power and the Court. The institutions of government. International Relations and Conflicts. 3. Society and Economy in the Habsburg period. Mentality and daily life in the Hapsburg Monarchy. Main economic activities. 4. The Baroque and the Golden Age. Culture and the arts. The means of dissemination of the culture of the Golden Age. 5. The War of Succession and Bourbon Reformism. The new Bourbon State. The War of Succession. Royal power and the Bourbon administration. Foreign policy. 6. The Spanish Enlightenment. Characteristics of the Spanish Enlightenment. Bourbon cultural policy: Education, culture and science. Absolutism, economy and social change. 7. Society and Economy in Bourbon Spain. Mentality and daily life in the Bourbon Monarchy. Evolution of economic activities.
Learning activities and methodology
AF1. THEORETICAL-PRACTICAL CLASSES. These will present the knowledge to be acquired by the students. Practices related to the contents will be carried out. AF2. TUTORIALS. Individual (individual tutorials) or group (group tutorials) assistance to students by the teacher. AF3. INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP WORK BY THE STUDENT. MD1. THEORY CLASS. Lectures in class by the lecturer with the support of computer and audiovisual media, in which the main concepts of the subject are developed. Specific material and bibliography will be provided to complement the students' learning. MD2. PRACTICALS. Resolution of practical cases (maps, texts, etc.) proposed by the teacher individually or in groups. MD3. TUTORIALS. Individual (individual tutorials) or group (group tutorials) assistance to students by the lecturer.
