PART 1: HISTORY 1. Origins of Greek political thought, from the Sophists to Socrates. Politics and Philosophy in Platonic thinking. The problem of the political community. Aristotle. The political thinking of the Stoics. 2. Sovereignty, State and Law in medieval thought. 3. The crisis of scholasticism and the secularization of political thought: Machiavelli 4. The problem of the social bond on the modern horizon: Hobbes, Rousseau, Locke, Spinoza, Kant. 5. Law and civil society: Hegel and political subjectivity. 6. Marxist political thought: materialism and emancipation. PART 2: THEORY 7. Justice: Utilitarism.- Rawls: Justice as fairness.- Rawl¿s theory influence on subsequent political theory.-Rawl¿s theory controversies: feminists, communitarians and socialists. 8. Freedom: Negative freedom.- Positive freedom.- Freedom as non-domination. 9. Equality: Distributive equality.- Social equality. 10.
