Ability to solve problems, through both analysis and synthesis. Development of team work skills and of the skills for both oral and written expression. Description of contents: programme
Origin and evolution of national, ethnic and supranational identities. Social and economic determinants of attitudes towards immigration. Process of changing cultural values: theory and evidence. Ethno-territorial conflicts in the contemporary world and the debate on the clash of cultures. The cultural dimension of regional integration processes: the case of the European Union. The study of culture as an explanatory variable: methodological and conceptual challenges.
Learning activities and methodology
Theoretical classes (2 credits ECTS) will focus on the acquisition of skills and knowledge related to the theories and evidence about culture, identity, and globalization presented in readings and lectures. Practical classes (2 credits ECTS) will entail group and individual activities and exercises: searching for references at the library, oral presentations, close readings of the texts, and other practices. All tasks are oriented to the acquisition of skills and competences directly related to the course.
