Objectives

· Understanding of the main critical theories of Human Rights. · Taking conscience of the role of Human Rights in democratic societies. · Ability to detect the principal problems of guaranteeing Human Rights in different cultural contexts. · Ability to adopt a position regarding the concept of Human Rights and their function in the constitutional order. · Ability to solve legal problems from the perspective of Human Rights. · Essential knowledge about the issues of justice of law, the legitimacy of power and rights-based theories.

Learning activities and methodology

1. Master Classes, where the subject is given with graphical support (slides). To facilitate learning the students have access to audiovisual materials and basic texts of reference to complete and deepen the topics explained in class. A different topic will be studied every week. 2. Practical classes, to smaller groups of students, where they can take a more active part in solving the proposed cases and texts commentaries and exchanging opinions. In these sessions, student´s participation is graded. Student participation in class allows them a deeper understanding of the main issues of the course. Materials will be available on 'Aula Global'

% of continuous assessment (assigments, laboratory, practicals...) 60

Calendar of Continuous assessment

Ordinary call:
a) Continuous evaluation
60% on practical sessions and lectures.
b) Final exam
40% test on the content of the course. More than 3 over 10 in the final exam is required for passing
60% for students who did not follow the continuous evaluation.

Extraordinary call:
a) Students who followed the continuous evaluation. 60% continuous evaluation on practical sessions and lectures and 40% test on the content of the course. More than 3 over 10 in the final exam is required for passing.
b) Students who did not follow the continuous evaluation, or in case of more favorable: 100% test on the content of the course.
