Skills and learning outcomes
Description of contents: programme
This is an optional subject whose purpose is to strengthen the students training through the implementation of the theoretical knowledge that shall be acquired during the Master. In the framework of this course, two models of professional practices will be offered: tutored practices and supervised practice. In addition to the aforementioned, practical group sessions will be held, where the different techniques and procedures of mediation and other mechanisms of conflict management will be worked on, classes that will be taught by active professionals. The course is intended primarily for those students who wish to guide its professional future to the mediation or other alternative dispute resolution methods practical exercise. With this goal, University Carlos III has concluded various collaboration agreements with external entities that will allow the student to put into practice the knowledge acquired during the course. Thus, it will be possible to carry out external practices in the family mediation field, civil, commercial, criminal (adults and juvenile offenders), prison, school, community mediation, etc., depending on the offer of the host institutions at each moment. The practices will be carried out annually in the Court-Connected Mediation Program of the University Carlos III as well as in the Agency for the Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Juvenile Offenders and in Support Family Centre. 1st Modality Tutored practices shall be carried out within the framework of the Court-Connected Mediation Program of the University Carlos III. Students will participate as observers in actual mediation, and analyze the cases with the mediators/tutors. Each one on the mediators in our team will be responsible for guiding a group of students during the course, which will be structured in three difficulty levels (beginner, intermediate and advanced), on the basis of the theoretical knowledge previously acquired at each stage of the Master. Students will use analysis sheets for the breakdown of each session observed. These sheets will be handed in to the mediator/tutor. 2nd Modality This modality is complementary to the previous one. The supervised practice will be carried out in the framework of external institutions that develop mediation professional activity. Each one of this institution will host a certain number of students, to participate as observers in mediation sessions. Depending on the area in which each partner institution, students may also study records of cases of mediation analysis in the same. These practices do not exclude those of the first modality, it simply reduces the number of hours of the former, compensating it with the number of hours carried out in these external institutions. In addition to these external practices that are offered from the University, it is possible that the student himself seeks a host institution in order to carry out their curricular practices, facilitating the signing of the corresponding agreements with these institutions from the University itself.
