Objectives
At the end of the course students will: 1. Understand the need to locate and use reliable sources and the importance of research based on digital information resources. 2. Know the main sources of information, both general and specialised in their discipline, identifying and selecting the most appropriate for each task. 3. Identify information needs and develop effective strategies to locate the appropriate sources. 4. Determine the reliability and quality of information and sources. 5. Retrieve information using accurate and effective searches. 6. Take into consideration the ethical use of information and avoid plagiarism applying academic and deontological regulations and conventions. 7. Use generative Artificial Intelligence tools in their field.
Learning Outcomes
K1: Acquire the knowledge, techniques and terminology specific to the field of economics, politics and international relations. K3: To know basic humanistic contents, oral and written expression, following ethical principles and completing a multidisciplinary training profile. K7: To know and understand the main models of political, economic and social organization of States and the processes of change in contemporary societies and politics. S3: Plan and organize team work making the right decisions based on available information and gathering data in digital environments. S4: Use information interpreting relevant data avoiding plagiarism, and in accordance with the academic and professional conventions of the area of study, being able to assess the reliability and quality of such information. S7: Be able to identify, access and manage sources of information relevant to comparative analysis in the field of politics, economics and international relations. S10: Ability to gather and interpret relevant data and knowledge for the elaboration and defense of arguments on topics in their area of study. S11: Ability to discern which quantitative or qualitative research technique is the appropriate one to apply depending on the phenomenon being analyzed. C2: Know and be able to handle interpersonal skills on initiative, responsibility, conflict resolution, negotiation, etc., required in the professional environment. C3: Ability to establish good interpersonal communication and to work in multidisciplinary and international teams. C4: Be able to engage in lifelong autonomous learning, enabling them to adapt to new situations.
Description of contents: programme
UNIT 1. IDENTIFY RELIABLE INFORMATION IN DIGITAL ENVIRONMENTS - Information overload and disinformation. - Information in Digital Society: risks and challenges. - Critical, thoughtful and proactive use of digital information. - Information sources: identification, selection and evaluation. - New spaces for knowledge interaction. Social media as scientific information resources. UNITS 2-3. RETRIEVAL AND ORGANIZATION OF INFORMATION - Principles and strategies for efficient information retrieval in the digital environment. Knowledge and use of the main gateways and collections of general and specialized digital information sources. - Ethical use of information and intellectual property regulations. Avoiding plagiarism in scientific and academic works. UNITS 4-5. CREATION OF BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCES - Create and manage in-text citations and references in academic works. - Organise references in academic papers and assignments. - Similarity detection services to prevent plagiarism. UNITS 6-9. GENERATIVE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE - Foundations of generative AI. - Innovative applications of generative AI. - Technical challenges and future developments in AI research. - Ethical principles of generative AI. Consent. Privacy. Information self-determination. - Responsibility and authorship. Legislation, regulation and control.
Learning activities and methodology
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS Students must bring their own computer equipment to class. LEARNING ACTIVITIES - Acquisition of knowledge through theoretical classes with teaching materials prepared by the teacher, online tutorials and readings. Related to theoretical competences. - Acquisition of skills and abilities through practical cases of information search, analysis and evaluation of sources, and presentation and citation of results. Related to practical competences. - General or specific tutorials established in Aula Global.
