Objectives
- Learn, in real situations, to develop methodologies to detect, assess and control safety risks in the workplace. - Understanding of risk assessment methods via the application of specific safety risk prevention software used in a particular company, the technological means used, the development of applied investigation, etc. - Ability to implement preventive safety systems in a company. - Learn to perform safety risk assessments and to develop preventive plans and audits, if applicable. - Increased ability to analyse and detect situations of safety risks in specific processes and sectors (depending on the sector to which the company assigned for the practicum pertains) and to promote the use of preventive measures adapted to said specific sectors. - Ability to find the best method when resolving a problem, and interpreting and obtaining conclusions from its result. - Be willing to integrate ideas and learn new methods, techniques and knowledge, while also adapting to new situations. - Ability to argue for and defend ideas while knowing how to accept different points of view. - Attitude to propose solutions that consider social and environmental needs, evaluating their impact. - Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment. - Ability to solve problems by showing initiative, good decision making skills, creativity and critical reasoning, and by communicating and transmitting knowledge, skills and competences in the field of industrial hygiene. - Opportunity to be in contact with the Prevention Technician, or similar figure, and the assigned functions of this person in relation to safety in the corresponding company, and the development of the ability to communicate with experts in the area of prevention in addition to others in different areas of the company (Quality, Production, Administration, Logistics, Buying, etc.). - Ability to analyse possible emergency situations and adopt the necessary measures in terms of first aid, firefighting and employee evacuation. - Understanding of how to correctly apply safety indications established in the Instruction Manuals of the machinery used in the corresponding company. - How to undertake an occupational accident and occupational disease investigation. - To be able to estimate the degree of implementation of the preventive culture and its integration in preventive management.
Learning Outcomes
Description of contents: programme
The student will carry out an internship of 195 hours in a public or private company, or public institution that has signed an Educational Cooperation Agreement with the Master or Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. These internships must be directly related to occupational hazard prevention work in the different specialities. Preparation of the final report (30 hours).
Learning activities and methodology
The student will undertake the practicum in a public or private company or public institution. An academic tutor and an external tutor from the company will be appointed. In addition, the academic tutor will be in contact with the student during the teaching period. The course will be developed as follows: 1) The academic tutor will inform students through specific meetings at the beginning of the course about the general guidelines of the internship. 2) Students will be contacted by the companies/institutions to carry out the selection process. The assignment of the specific company or institution in which the student will carry out the internship will be carried out within the framework established in the Educational Cooperation Agreements that the Master and the University have signed with the different companies or institutions, and taking into consideration the academic trajectory of the students, their curriculum vitae, as well as the availability and possibilities of these companies and institutions to host them. Said practicum must be directly related to the fulfilment of tasks that correspond to the specialisation the student. 3) After passing the selection process, students will carry out 195 hours of work placement in a particular company/institution. 4) In the company, the student will have a tutor who will direct, guide and supervise his/her activity in order to check the progress of the placement and provide technical support. 5) Finally, students will produce their own report (report) on the placement in the company or institution (30 hours). The external tutor will send the evaluation report (report card) of the student to the academic tutor at the University.
Assessment System
The assessment of academic performance will be comprised of the following: - When the student completes a practicum in a company or institution, he/she will be subject to the assessment of an external tutor and this assessment will constitute 80% of the final grade. - The final report the student must submit to his/her academic tutor will constitute 20% of the final grade.
