Objectives
To know and to understand the main concepts and problematic questions in the field of the working environment, and the basic features of the working environment management scheme - To realize the need to integrate the environmental protection and the prevention of occupational risks, and the connecting points between these two fields. - To know the key concepts in the field of occupational health and security in the workplace - To know the basics of the health monitoring schemes, the different types of medical examinations in the workplace and how to interpret the health information, in view of its correct application - To know and to develop practical skills in the field of first aid
Description of contents: programme
Unit 1. Industrial safety and the prevention of industrial accidents. Its connection with occupational safety Unit 2. The control and marketing of chemicals, and its connection with occupational health. Unit 3. Environmental management schemes and the prevention of occupational risks Unit 4. Environmental quality Unit 5. Medicine in the workplace: basic concepts. Unit 6. The promotion and enhancement of health in the workplace. Unit 7. Pathologies and diseases having an occupational origin. Unit 8. Lifesaving and first aid in the workplace. Integrated management of accidents at work, medical protocols and risk evaluation.
Learning activities and methodology
Regular lecturing: regular lectures will be taught, where the main concepts and elements of the program will be explained and clarified, and that the students are supposed to learn. To this end, the professor will recommend reference manuals and readings at the beginning of the term, as well as a specialised bibliography for specific subjects, together with tailored reading materials for a better comprehension of the different lectures. These working materials will help introducing the debates and the class discussions, especially those who are the most interesting both for the professor and the students. The teaching methodology will combine the theoretical and practical approach The on-site tutorships will be held at the time and place determined by the professor.
