Objectives
Understanding of the significance and need to guarantee safe work conditions. Ability to analyse the new occupational safety model. Understanding of the basics of notifying, recording and investigating occupational accidents and work-related illnesses. Knowledge of the methodology for investigating accidents and the statistical control of the accident rate. Ability to identify the general safety conditions in workplaces (constructive conditions, structural safety, orderliness and cleanliness...). Ability to learn and embrace the basic principles of safety signs in addition to the management and classification of individual and collective protective equipment.
Description of contents: programme
1. Occupational safety: basic concepts. 2. The new occupational safety model. Safety in displacements. 3. Periodic control of work conditions: periodic reviews. 4. Full management of occupational accidents: management of documents and statistics. 5. Full management of occupational accidents: investigation into accidents and incidents. 6. Workplaces. Applicable legislation, assessment, preventive measures and control measures. 7. Collective and individual protection: general aspects. Selection, use and maintenance. 8. Signs. Applicable legislation, assessment, preventive measures and control measures.
Learning activities and methodology
Lectures in which the fundamental conceptual contents the student must acquire will be developed. In addition to consulting the necessary manuals and a specific bibliography for certain matters which will be provided at the beginning of the four-month period, the student will be provided, in advance, with materials made by the professor to enable a more in-depth study of topics and the better following of explanations. These work materials will serve to introduce the debate and discussion of topics of greater interest to the both the professor and students. Practical workshops in work groups, individual case studies, analysis of videos and other documents of interest, class debates. Weekly tutoring hours.
