Objectives
Generic: Development of analytical thinking; learning strategies; database management ; verbal and written communication ; teamwork and creativity. Specific: - Know what is the object of labour economics - Distinguish particular methods for the analysis of labor markets. - Identify the different alternative models that explain the job. - Discuss empirically the determinants of employment rates. - Define the concept of human capital. - Know the determinants of the demand for labor in the short term and long term. - Summarize the causes of unemployment. - Identify the causes of the wage structure. - Understand efficiency wages and its implications. - Recognize the impact of technological innovation and globalization on income distribution. - Distinguish between urban and rural dualism - Know the determinants of migration. - Identify the consequences of the decision to emigrate. - Understand the political economy of migration. - Describe the theory of unions. - Know the consequences of minimum wage. - Interpret the role of the state in labor markets. - Summarize the causes and consequences of the regulation of health and safety at work. - Understand the theory of discrimination. - Know the empirical evidence on discrimination in labor markets.

Learning activities and methodology
The course stretches over 22 teaching hours organized in eleven blocks of two hours for each of the topics. The course will try to combine the knowledge of the subject ( labor economics ) with the development of several generic skills such as teamwork and creativity. The first hour of each of the blocks are devoted to the presentation of the subject by the teacher . Students must perform the required readings before class attendance . The teacher asks a PowerPoint presentation and facilitates the students before class so that they can consult. It is expected of students to actively participate in class. The second block of one hour is dedicated to the presentation and discussion by students of lectures on the subject.
