Objectives
The competencies and expected results are: 1. Know the history of the collector. 2. Acquire a vision of the treatment of collections (registration, inventory, cataloging) and their preventive conservation: environmental control and physical-chemical alterations 2. To know criteria of intervention, handling, transportation and packaging. 3. To obtain knowledge of the systems of protection, security, prevention and intervention in emergencies. 4. Know the code of ethics and the possibilities of physical and intellectual accessibility. 5. To know the legal framework that covers the conservation of cultural property
Description of contents: programme
FIRST PART: 1. The conservation of cultural material goods: the international legal framework. 2. The conservation of cultural material goods: the Spanish legal framework. 3. The conservation of material cultural property: collecting and museums. 4. The conservation of cultural material goods: books and libraries. 5. Conservation and restoration. 6. Heritage management. 7. The conservation of material cultural property: remains and dissemination. SECOND PART 1. Cultural heritage, cultural heritage and cultural heritage. 2. Cultural heritage: its definition according to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Universal Cultural Heritage. The notion of tradition and its significance in the various cultural contexts. 3. The possible conflicts between tradition and modernity in multicultural society. 4. The significance of cultural property in the constitution of national consciousness. 5. The role of new media in the preservation of cultural heritage. The transmission of classical culture. 6. The survival of the written legacy: inscriptions, manuscripts and incunables. Its cataloging and conservation. 7. The age of the printing press. Modern libraries in Europe. The vehicular languages.
Learning activities and methodology
1. Lectures, which will present the knowledge that students should acquire. Students will be given basic reference texts that allow them to understand and deepen the contents of the subject taught. 2. Practical classes, in which we will work with specific documentation that allows students a more precise approach to the contents of the subject. 3. Oral presentations, presenting the results and materials worked, with the aim of promoting learning and the acquisition of skills in the field of presentation and public dissemination of the work done. 4.
