Objectives
The competencies are related to the student's ability to construct, from its own investigation into the research agenda in the field of communication, the map of the current state of the art and future challenges. In addition, the student will get in touch with the basic fundamentals and some case studies of Cultural Studies and the Political Economy of Communication. The learning outcomes are related to the ability to assess and formalize the current state of research in communication being able to define the existing research lines and indicating new to come.

Cultural Studies and Political Economy of Communication. basic notions and case studies Session 1: Introduction. Intimate enemies: cultural studies and the political economy of communication. Session 2: Basic notions of the Political Economy of Communication and Culture Session 3: Basic notions of Cultural Studies. Session 4: The internationalization of Cultural Studies and the visual turn: the emergence of Visual Studies. Session 5: An approach to identity policies: first, popular images. Session 6: Identity policies (I): national images. Session 7: Identity policies (II): gender visuality and identity. Session 8: Controversies and points of confluence of Cultural Studies from the Political Economy of Communication and Culture. Session 9: Diversity, protagonist of communication and culture policies. Session 10: Audiovisual Diversity: conceptualization and measurement. Session 11: Article sessions (I): raise the investigation. Session 12: Article sessions (II): plot development. Session 13: Article sessions (III): finalization of the article. Session 14: Presentation of articles.
Learning activities and methodology
This seminar is structured in teaching sessions of 1.5 hours each. The seminar follows these work methodologies: -Master classes: master class to raise   the theoretical and analytical bases of the topics. -Reads / images: students will work with different materials (articles, movies, photographs, websites ...) to complete each topic. - Design, development and defense of an investigation by the students on the proposed topics. Therefore, students will work in the classroom, but there will also be frequent use of the digital tools of the University (Global Classroom).
