Objectives
- Understanding of the main approaches, theories and models of contemporary political analysis. - Ability to link theoretical issues of contemporary politics with the empirical factors and the dynamics of political systems.
Description of contents: programme
1. Scientific Knowledge and Political Science. Research paradigms. 2. Research approaches and theories - Normativism - Critical Theory and postmodernism - Behaviorism and functionalism - Systemic Analysis - Institutionalism and new institutionalism - Rational choice theory - Other current theories and approaches. 3. Methodology for empirical political analysis. A practical guide - Theory and problems construction. Analitical strategies. - Concepts elaboration and operativization. Analitical levels. - The hypothesis testing - Information access and data bases in the field of political science.
Learning activities and methodology
Teaching time is distributed according to the following training activities: - Classes (50 per 100). It includes case studies that illustrate the lectures. - Exercises and/or final paper elaboration, explanations and public debates on basic reading and case workshop: 50 per 100
