Objectives
Overview of the Classical Graeco-Roman culture through the literary texts. Learning and practice of a Classical language. Introduction to the classical world and the disciplines related to its study, with particular emphasis on philological disciplines.

Knowledge of historical and cultural context of Ancient Greek and Roman worlds through the analysis of literary texts and archaeology. Greek literature and Latin literatures through their texts and archaeology. PROGRAM: 1. Ancient Greek Literature. General presentation and periods: Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic, Roman. Homeric Epics: The Iliad (I) 2. Homeric Epics: The Odyssey (II) 3. Archaic poetry 4. Greek historiography (I): Herodotus 5. Greek historiography (II): Thucydides 6. Classical tragedy (I). Origins and Aeschylus 7. Classical tragedy (II). Sophocles, Euripides 8. The Attic Old Comedy. Aristophanes 9. Plato. Philosophy and literature 10. Aristotle. 11. Early Latin literature. Classical Latin Prose: Cicero 12. Classical Latin Prose: Sallustius 13. Classical Latin Poetry: Vergil 14. Historiography under Augustus' rule: Livy
Learning activities and methodology
