Objectives

1. Knowledge of the nature and development of television fiction and its interaction with media culture. 2. Ability to analyze the evolution of television fiction from an international perspective. 3. Ability to interpret and critically examine mutations that occur in the production of contemporary fiction. 4. Study case.

Description of contents: programme

I. The canon of television fiction. II. Industrial and authorship analysis of television fiction. III. Narrative analysis of television fiction. IV. Aesthetic analysis of television fiction. V. Cultural analysis of television fiction. VI. Reception analysis of television fiction. VII. TV fiction criticism. Study case of the course: "The Bear" (Disney+: 2022-).

Learning activities and methodology

1. Theorical lessons. Approach to the analysis of televised fiction, with special attention to contemporary television fiction. Narrative aspects, cultural and aesthetic. Competences 1 and 2 (0.75 ECTS). 2. Practical lessons. Interpretation and analysis of representative examples of fictional television productions. Active participation of the students in the comment of the proposed audiovisual texts. Competences 3 and 4 (0.75 ECTS). 3. Student work. Supervised study theoretical and practical content and teaching materials. Competences 1 and 2 (1 ECTS). Preparation of practical classes and preparation and defense of a research work on specific issues. Competences 3 and 4 (0.5 ECTS).

% of continuous assessment (assigments, laboratory, practicals...) 60

- Final review of the subject: 40% of the total grade. Students taking the exam because the practical grade was not enough to pass the course, must obtain at least 50% of the maximum grade to pass the course. For the students with 5 points in the practical part, the exam will be optional.

- Final practical exercise: 60% of the total grade.

- The active participation of students in practical classes and tutorials will be assessed for the purpose of improving the overall grade.

According to the latest regulations approved by the University Carlos III of Madrid, the classification of students in special call will follow the following rules:

a. If students followed the process of continuous assessment, examination shall have the same percentage as in the ordinary call and the final grade for the course will consider the note of the continuous assessment and the grade obtained in the final exam.

b. If the student did not follow the process of continuous evaluation, shall be entitled to conduct a review in the special call with a value of 100% of the total grade for the course. Nevertheless, when the characteristics of continuous assessment exercises allow the student teacher may authorize the delivery to the extraordinary exam, evaluating the course in this case just as in the ordinary process.

c. Although the student had followed the process of continuous evaluation, shall be entitled to qualified extraordinary one taking into account only the grade obtained on the final exam when it is most favorable.
