Objectives
After completing this course, students will be able to: 1. Know and understand the theory and terms relating to the management of an organization, its core functions, as well as trends and changes. 2. Develop plans and programs. Provide, organize, manage and successfully carry out a project, taking into account the available human, technical and economic resources and fulfilling the demands of time. 3. Learn dividing and organizing work, applying the appropriate criteria depending on the type of organizational structure to meeting the goals of the organization. 4. Identify the strengths and weaknesses of an organization, product or service, establishing and using indicators for evaluation, developing solutions to improve quality. 5. Promote marketing activity in the right context, develop strategies to ensure communication and dissemination of services and activities of the unit of information, applying techniques to capture the market and establish and maintain long term relationships with customers or partners.
Description of contents: programme
This is an introductory course with the aim of providing the student with the basic concepts of Information Centres Management. It provides an overview of the context of modern management and of the major functional areas of management studies in libraries and information services such as planning and projects management, organizational behaviour, operations management, monitoring, evaluation and quality, and marketing. The main objective of the course aims to provide the student a theoretical and practical vision of functions involving the management so the student can develop the skills and capabilities necessary for the exercise of those functions in the units of information. Lessons: 1. Management and its functions 1.1. The holistic view of management and their roles in libraries and information units 1.2. The focus on quality and customer service in the hybrid environment of operation of the units of information: current trends 2. Planning. Project Management 2.1. The goals as a driver of organizational performance. 2.2. Project management: process. 3. Organization 3.1. The division of labor and organizational dynamics. 3.2. Job functions, organizational documents and Ethics. 4. Implementation and Management 4.1. Responsible leadership and organizational culture. 4.2. Leadership, change management and creation of new organizational values. 5. Monitoring, evaluation and quality 5.1. The holistic approach to monitoring and evaluation in the framework of Quality Management. 5.2. Tools for performance measurement: the statistics of quality tools. 6. Marketing 6.1. Quality and three-dimensional optical of marketing in service organizations. 6.2. Marketing management in information units.
Learning activities and methodology
- Acquisition of knowledge and skills (3 credits) through lectures, teaching materials developed by teachers, specialized readings and discussions, as well as students' personal study. - Acquisition of skills and abilities (3 credits) through lectures, case studies, practical exercises conducted individually and in groups and presenting selected to reinforce the theoretical knowledge acquired by students and train them so they can apply to specific situations. NOTE: - This subject does not have teaching in the academic year 2022-2023. - The materials corresponding to the subject will be available to students at the beginning of the course. - The tutorials will be held through the Subject Forum in the Global Classroom at established hours
