Description of contents: programme
Topic 1. Technology in the information society: technology as an element of social change and social construction. The problems of technological diffusion. Topic 2. Technologies in the information society. Digitization and virtuality Topic 3. The Risk Society: The problematic relationship between society and the environment Topic 4. Technological revolution and postindustrial society: informationalism, globalization and network society. The impact of the information technologies in the organization of the economy and politics. Topic 5. Network society: The 21st century society, new challenges and problems connected to technological development. Topic 6. Education in the information society. Information, technology and knowledge. Topic 7. The media in the information society: new forms of communication and their social impact.
Learning activities and methodology
The module is divided in two separate blocks: theoretical lectures and assignments. The theoretical lessons will be supported by the lecturer using participatory tools. In this respect the students will be given the presentations of each of the topics that are explained in the classroom and therefore their knowledge will be evaluated with a final exercise in the classroom. The assignments will be submitted at the end of each topic. These assignments will be supported by relevant readings, newspaper articles, documentaries and films.
