Objectives
GENERAL: Provide at the student a level of basic knowledge about the socio-political structure of societies. Applicate theoretical and practical knowledge to the field of study. Facilitate reflection, analysis and discussion of socio-political issues. SPECIFIC: Introduce the main concepts and theoretical debates of sociopolitical analysis. Familiarize the student with the political-institutional configurations of contemporary societies. Explain causal mechanisms that mediate relations between society and politics. Identify and understand empirical analysis models. Develop the skills of understanding, interpretation, presentation and argumentation. Stimulate debate and critical opinion.
Learning Outcomes
LEARNING OUTCOMES 3.Have the ability to collect and interpret data and information on which to base their conclusions including, when necessary and relevant, reflection on social, scientific or ethical matters in the field of Sociology. BASIC COMPETENCES 1.Students have demonstrated possession and understanding of knowledge in an area of study that builds on the foundation of general secondary education, and is usually at a level that, while relying on advanced textbooks, also includes some aspects that involve knowledge from the cutting edge of their field of study. 3.Students have the ability to gather and interpret relevant data (usually within their field of study) in order to make judgements which include reflection on relevant social, scientific or ethical issues. SPECIFIC COMPETENCES 5.Analyse the theories about power, legitimacy, the State and the forms of political organization and their historical evolution, with special attention to contemporary systems. 22. Know the design of public policies aimed at addressing social problems.

1. Society, politics and power (strength, influence, legitimacy and authority) 2. Forms of government (types of dictatorships and types of democracies) 3. Types of political structure (Renaissance State, Absolutist State, Liberal State, Social State) 4. Citizenship and political culture (values and ideologies) 5. Types of representation and participation 6. Electoral systems and party systems 7. Political actors (individuals, interest groups, social movements, political parties, media) 8. Current policy challenges
Learning activities and methodology
Theory (4ECTS). Theory classes with materials available in Aula Global. Practices (2ECTS). Videos, case studies, best practices and presentations. Group tutorials to solve problems, doubts, etc.
