Objectives
The subject focuses on the analysis of diplomatic and consular relations in international society, with the aim of introducing students to the basic aspects of diplomatic and consular law, paying special attention to diplomatic functions, diplomatic missions, diplomatic status and consular functions. It is a subject that deepens the understanding of public international law and its relationship with our legal system.
Learning Outcomes
K2: To know the principles and values of democracy and sustainable development, in particular, respect for human rights and fundamental rights, gender equality and non-discrimination, the principles of universal accessibility and climate change. K5: To know and integrate the principles and values of the culture of peace. K6: To know the legal tools and instruments applicable to the interpretation and integration of the legal system, as well as to the resolution of conflicts, in the field of Public Law. K9: Know how institutions such as mediation, auditing or consulting work. K11: Understand the Spanish legal system in relation to European and international law. S3: Apply the necessary skills to search for information in the different legal sources (legal, jurisprudential and doctrinal). S4: Apply organizational skills and critical management of legal knowledge. S5: Correctly diagnose legal problems and apply the appropriate tools for their solution. S9: Correctly and effectively use oratory and legal argumentation. S10: Write and structure legal documents correctly. S11: To develop with autonomy and respect for deontological principles in their work and professional performance. C1: Know how to analyse, elaborate and defend individually a problem in the disciplinary field of the Bachelor's Degree by applying the knowledge, skills, tools and strategies acquired or developed in it. C3: Select and interpret legal and conventional regulations, jurisprudence and judicial doctrine applicable to different legal systems. C4: Be able to solve complex legal problems by applying creativity and innovative ideas. C5: Transmit legal information in a clear, precise and understandable way, both orally and in writing, adapting to various professional contexts. C6: Prepare contracts, reports, lawsuits and other legal documents with technical precision.
Description of contents: programme
Diplomatic and consular relations law, with reference to the creation and operation of diplomatic missions and statutes and members of the diplomatic mission, consular functions, distinguishing between political functions, functions relating to nationality, assistance functions, administrative functions, private law and the legal functions and finally the statutes of the consular offices and its members.
Learning activities and methodology
An hour and a half of theory class (lecture) will be given, where the fundamental contents indicated in the syllabus of the subject will be explained in an orderly manner. For a proper understanding of the explanations, prior reading of the subject in the reference manual is recommended. In the second session (practical class), also lasting an hour and a half, practical cases and workshops will be held in which students will present and discuss the proposed topics, acquiring the necessary skills to solve the legal problems raised.
