K1: Acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and techniques of the discipline of political science, using the appropriate terminology and the appropriate scientific method K2: To know the principles and values of democracy and sustainable development, in particular, respect for human rights and fundamental rights, gender equality and non-discrimination, the principles of universal accessibility and climate change. Description of contents: programme
This course examines the role of gender in political institutions, participation and representation. Three questions will be explored: (1) To what extent do women and men think, believe and act differently in politics and what might explain these differences? (2) To what extent are political processes and institutions and social structures gendered and how might they shape the political activities of women and men? (3) Why are women underrepresented in politics and to what extent do female political leaders have an impact? This course also pays attention to how women differ from each other in the political arena, especially when gender identity interacts with race/ethnicity, origin, social class, and sexuality.
