K1: Acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and techniques of the discipline of political science, using the appropriate terminology and the appropriate scientific method K5: To know the structure and functioning of political institutions and their interaction with the rest of the components of the political system from a comparative perspective K7: Describe the structure of public administrations at their different levels, the relationships established between them, the regulatory framework, planning and management in the public sphere. Description of contents: programme
The subject States, Markets and Institutions seeks to provide students with an interdisciplinary perspective of how political and economic factors interrelate with each other and end up defining institutions. Starting from the classical theories on Institutions Different advanced questions in political economy are raised, ranging from the origins that explain the emergence of institutions, to the processes that explain the consolidation of suffrage or the levels of taxation and the long-term consequences of certain historical phenomena. Political economy and institutions Origins of economic development, wealth, inequality (economic and political), and education Historical Origins of Political Institutions Wellness models Varieties of Capitalism and Economic Institutions Labour and trade markets Evolution of suffrage: expansion, corruption and electoral fraud Historical origins of taxation The formation of federalism The study of political legacies
