Objectives
- Knowledge of main sociological theories. Basic skills for sociological empirical analysis. - Critical thinking.
Learning Outcomes
K2: To know the principles and values of democracy and sustainable development, in particular, respect for human rights and fundamental rights, gender equality and non-discrimination, the principles of universal accessibility and climate change. K8: Recognize the historical dimension of political and social processes and explain them in terms of it C2: Identify, understand and know how to use the main theoretical and conceptual approaches and frameworks of the different areas of specialization and subdisciplines of political science S1: Be able to debate and formulate critical reasoning, using precise terminology and specialized resources, on political phenomena S4: Be able to apply the scientific method to social, political, and economic questions both domestically and in a globalized society S10: Understand and use the concepts of social structure and social change, their interdependence and their relationship with the political and economic system
Description of contents: programme
1. The sociological perspective; Macro-sociology and micro-sociology; Sociological research. 2. Society and culture; groups and organizations. 3. Inequality: class, gender, race, and age. 4. The state; deviation and social control. 5. Families; Education; Religion. 6. Demography; The environment.
Learning activities and methodology
- Lectures (2 ECTS credits). Students will have enough time to ask questions. - Exercises made and corrected in the classroom (2 ECTS credits). - Mandatory and voluntary readings made by students (2 ECTS credits).
