Objectives
This course explains students how academic research is carried out. The course will analyse all the aspects and steps required , from choosing a topic to focusing in a question, making hypotheses, theoretical frameworks, obtaining data, choosing methods and presenting the results.
Learning Outcomes
K1: Acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and techniques of the discipline of political science, using the appropriate terminology and the appropriate scientific method C3: Know how to choose and use the different methodologies of political science and its subdisciplines for the understanding of past and future political phenomena C4: Be able to dedicate themselves to lifelong autonomous learning, which allows them to adapt to new situations in the professional environment S2: Plan and organize teamwork by making the right decisions based on available information and gathering data in digital environments. S3: Use the information by interpreting relevant data avoiding plagiarism, and in accordance with the academic and professional conventions of the area of study, being able to evaluate the reliability and quality of such information. S4: Be able to apply the scientific method to social, political, and economic questions both domestically and in a globalized society S7: Apply computational tools and specific software for the analysis of political, social and economic problems in the international context. S8: Ability to gather and interpret data and knowledge relevant to the development and defense of arguments on topics in their area of study S9: Ability to discern which quantitative or qualitative research techniques are appropriate to apply depending on the phenomenon being analysed

Data Collection and Analysis Methods 6. Statistical Software: From Excel to R 7. Presentation of Results 8. Fact-Check Presentations 9. Research Project Presentation Workshops
Learning activities and methodology
The course will be based in a first part including mainly theoretical lectures and a second part including workshops where the students will work with the concepts learnt. This second part will occupy most of the times, as this course is mainly a workshop to understand, learn and apply how academic research works.
