Knowledge of the History of Medieval women through some of main protagonists, taking into consideration their contributions Develop of skills of analysis and synthesis through the study and commentary of historical documents basic to understand that time Practice of oral and written communication through debates on key issues of the history of women and men Encouragement of analysis of stereotypes through the study of different believes and ideologies Understanding of attitudes of other times and spaces stressing the dialogue past and present

1. Breaking stereotypes: the history of women in the Middle Ages. Presentation of the course 2. Women and sciences in the Middle Ages. Trótula de Salermo: a woman doctor in the XIth century 3. Hildegarda of Bingen: life and work of an abbess who was a writer, a scientist and a composer of music 4. Women who break stereotypes: Heloise 5. Eleanor of Aquitaine: woman in the center of the political and cultural worl of her time (XII and XIII centuries) 6. Beguines: an experience of women freedom 7. The troubadours: poetess of love 8. A change in the paradigm: Christine de Pizan 9. Jeanne of Arc: heresiarch and saint 10. Isabelle of Castile 11. Jeanne of Castile 12. Therese of Jesus 13. Learning activities and methodology
Learning activities and methodology will follow the lines exposed above (competences and skills). The class will be divided in two part: during the first part the professor will talk about the topic of the day, and she will invite the students to participate in a debate on the topic studied. The participation will be more important the days that the students will have to expose the analysis of some documents (it will be at least 2 documents to analyze during the weeks of the course. Tutoring will take place when the students need help on the practice of the activities, when the need special or deeper explanation. A small group gathering will take place to help the students to choose and prepare the final paper topic.
