Semester:

Requirements (Subjects that are assumed to be known)
We will assume the student is familiar with: - Fluid Mechanics
Objectives
The course objectives are to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of wind and marine energy resources, including assessment and characterization methods. In the first module, students will gain in-depth knowledge of wind and marine resources, as well as aerodynamic fundamentals for turbine design, the selection of performance coefficients, and the comparison of onshore versus offshore installations. In the second module, they will delve into the theory and behavior of hydraulic turbomachinery, interpreting head¿flow maps and applying dimensional analysis. Throughout the course, they will develop skills in specialized numerical tools for sizing both wind and hydraulic projects, fostering a critical and sustainable approach.
Learning Outcomes
Description of contents: programme
Wind and hydro resources. Fluid-mechanical analysis of wind turbines. Onshore and offshore wind turbines. Turbomachinery and hydraulic facilities. Tidal, wave, and (mini) hydropower plants. Hydraulic pumping. Numerical tools for project sizing and design.
Assessment System
