Objectives
This course will contribute to the students¿ competence profile in the following terms. A) In terms of knowledge, they will learn and understand and understand the different approaches to the EU as a political, legal, economic and social system. B) In terms of skills, the students will be able: (1)To apply the main theories of integration and governance of the European Union (neo-functionalism, intergovernmentalism, constructivism, etc.) to understand the European decision-making process. (2) To identify the central institutions and actors of European economic governance and understand the multi-level institutional relations between them and the Member States. (3) To relate current events in the European Union with the theoretical perspectives and the institutional framework of the Union. (4) To characterize the different European economic policies and their political, legal and social impact. (5) To identify the different modes of decision in the European Union (e.g. community, cooperation, coordination, etc.) applicable to the various policies of the Union. C) Finally, based upon this knowledge and skills, the student will analyse, contrast and evaluate policy-making. As a result, the student will be able: (1) To evaluate the EU governance process in normative and positive terms. (2) To critically analyse the decision processes in the different areas of economic policy. (3) To analyse individually or collaboratively case studies on the generation and economic, legal and social implications of European policies. (4) To reflect independently on the institutional, political, economic, social and legal elements of the EU of empowerment and disempowerment of economic and social actors.
