The MASUS Master's Thesis (TFM hereafter) is a graduate dissertation which examines a specific problem of sustainable development and/or global governance. The TFM should rely on the student's original work and it cannot draw on the work undertaken in collaboration with others, unless that is approved by the TFM coordinator and cited properly. Also, it ought to be distinct from any other work (thesis or paper) that has been previously submitted by the student for any other degree, with the exception of previous MASUS coursework. In case that it draws on previous research conducted and/or paper written for MASUS coursework, this should be clearly discussed with the supervisor and the TFM Committee. In general, the TFM should reflect the student¿s graduate training, particularly her/his/their command of theoretical concepts and analytical tools.
In all cases, TFMs must meet the standards of intellectual enquiry expected from a graduate student at Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M). These standards entail the following: (a) scientific rigor in the use of concepts and awareness of the limitations of the study; (b) language and style following academic rules and conventions (clarity of prose, precision in documentation and referencing, professional presentation and formatting); (c) originality, providing either new empirical evidence, a new theoretical or interpretive perspective on a relevant issue, or a novel way of articulating existing research in order to sustain or analyze a policy position.
