The essential purpose of undertaking curricular internships lies in providing students with a structured first approach to the professional environment, allowing them to apply in practice the knowledge acquired within the academic program, particularly in relation to one of the subjects included in the curriculum. These internships must, in any case, be carried out during hours compatible with the academic requirements of the Master's program.
Practical activities may begin from the start of the postgraduate program, and no prior accreditation of experience or specific knowledge in the relevant field is required to undertake them. This possibility responds to a well-established tradition in the legal field, where it is common for Law Degree students to begin their practical training in the early years of their studies.
The organization of internships is primarily carried out by the Foundation and the internship coordinator, who make available to students the offers provided by partner companies.
The selection for undertaking internships is generally made by the companies offering them, which evaluate, among other aspects, the following criteria:
a) The CVs submitted by students.
b) The academic and personal situation of the student, their educational profile, and the interest demonstrated during the preliminary selection interviews.
It is also worth highlighting that the possibility of starting internships at the beginning of the Master's program significantly increases both the opportunities and the number of hours a student may devote to this activity, whether within the framework of curricular or extracurricular internships, as they may carry them out in one or more entities. This circumstance contributes to more comprehensive professional training and better readiness for entering the labor market.
To this end, group in-person sessions are organized, which aim to fulfill the following purposes:
a) To explain the general procedure and specific functioning of the internship system, including the documents to be drafted and submitted, their management (available on the UC3M platform), compliance with deadlines, delivery formats, among other administrative aspects. During these sessions, students¿ questions regarding their expectations and interests in specific professional sectors will also be collected, providing appropriate guidance for obtaining internships and resolving doubts. The person from the Foundation who collaborates with the Master¿s program in this area will be introduced; this individual will explain the usual procedure followed, the documents to be completed and necessary for managing internships, current agreements, and the procedure established for formalizing new agreements with host entities, etc.
b) All information explained in the different internship sessions will also be provided through the University¿s institutional platform, including the document outlining the applicable procedures and requirements.
c) The essential principles of sustainability and their connection with the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be explained, in accordance with the provisions of Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28. The essential role of sustainability in the digital environment and its integration into training through curricular internships will be highlighted. To this end, and with the support of the tools and documents provided, the student must prepare, at the end of the internship period, a report analyzing the degree to which the host company or institution complies with the SDGs and/or proposing reasoned improvements in this regard, thereby enabling the practical application of acquired knowledge.
d) Information will be provided regarding the internship validation procedure and the requirements necessary for its processing and favorable resolution.
e) The document provided on the internship system will be reviewed in order to ensure proper understanding and compliance by the students.
