Introduction to Business Administration
Objectives
The competencies that students should gain from this subject focus on developing the knowledge and skills to understand the diversity and complexity of the behaviors of the people who make up an organization. Knowledge: Understand the behavior of people in organizations at the individual, group, and organizational levels. 1) At the individual level: a. Know about perception and describe the major elements in the perception process. b. Know how to analyze the results of different decision-making models in terms of economic variables such as productivity, absenteeism, and turnover. c. Know the concept of motivation and describe the process of motivation in real situations. 2) At the group level: a. Identify the key factors that explain group behavior. b. Summarize the findings of the major theories of leadership. c. Know the communication process and its components in order to analyze its various effects in the workplace. 3) At the organizational level: a. Analyze the process of conflict and evaluate why it exists in organizations. b. Analyze the elements of organizational culture and its influence on business ethics. Skills: - The ability to work independently under pressure in resolving current cases will be developed. - In addition, the ability to relate and work in groups to make decisions will be developed. - Ability to manage and motivate others. - Ability to think of novel solutions through the application of research methods. Attitudes: - Possess a critical attitude based on evidence and research methodologies that allow understanding of aspects related to organizational behavior. - Demonstrate ethical and justice behavior in decision making and conflict resolution in organizations. - Promote the level of commitment to organizations in terms of sustainability and values. - Develop an entrepreneurial attitude toward organizational change.
Learning Outcomes
K1: To know the principles and values of democracy and sustainable development, in particular, respect for human rights and fundamental rights, gender equality and non-discrimination, the principles of universal accessibility and climate change. K2: Know basic humanistic contents, oral and written expression, following ethical principles and completing a multidisciplinary training profile. S2: To solve the constraints that develop in any business organization (need to innovate, to permanently update knowledge, relationship with external and internal customers and suppliers, decision-making in contexts of uncertainty, efficient time management), applying knowledge of a theoretical-practical nature S3: Plan and organize teamwork by making the right decisions based on available information and gathering data in digital environments. S4: Use the information by interpreting relevant data avoiding plagiarism, and in accordance with the academic and professional conventions of the area of study, being able to evaluate the reliability and quality of such information. S6: To be able to formulate, debate and defend critical reasoning, using precise terminology and specialized resources on business phenomena, using the concepts and methodologies of analysis of the different disciplines of Business Administration S7: Be able to manage, identify, gather and interpret relevant information on issues related to the business environment S8: Know how to make judgments that include ethical reflection on fundamental issues of a business and economic nature S9: Show the ability to organize and plan work, to make decisions based on the information obtained and to make judgments from critical thinking within their area of knowledge S10: Demonstrate good interpersonal communication and ability to work in multidisciplinary and international teams S11: Apply interpersonal skills to negotiate efficiently in workplace conflicts, as well as select, motivate, and retain employees C1: To be able to analyse, develop and defend an interdisciplinary problem related to the content taught in the Bachelor's Degree, applying the knowledge, skills, tools and strategies acquired or developed during the course. C2: Know and be able to manage interpersonal skills on initiative, responsibility, conflict resolution, negotiation, etc., that are required in the professional field. Learning activities and methodology
The course is structured through the use of the SPOC platform, which includes the materials to be used (videos and presentations) and the activities to be developed both online and in small group classes. In the small group, the contents are worked on through group tasks related to the theoretical material and case studies are discussed. In addition, digital and communication skills are also worked on through presentations and the creation of a video. Individual tutorials will be at the request of the students within the timetable established by the teachers. There will also be group tutorials in the practical classes to supervise the development of the final project.
