Objectives
- Identifying and understanding the principles and legal techniques for the protection of the environment as applied to the regulated industries (economic sectors). - to become aware of the relevance of environmental protection in the operation of regulated economic sectors.. .
Skills and learning outcomes
Description of contents: programme
1.- Introduction to environmental law: concept and contents; sources; allocation of powers in environmental protection. 2.- The principles of Environmental Law. Its relevance in the domain of industry regulation. 3.- The main techniques for environmental protection, as applied to regulated economic sectors: EIA, IPPC, environmental liability, market based instruments. 4.- Cases preparation and in-class discussions: - EIA of an energy production project - Integrated permit for energy installation - Debates over specific problems and issues - Case discussions
Learning activities and methodology
- Regular, lecturing sessions. - Case - preparation and in-class discussions - team works - analysis of readings distributed beforehand and in-classs discussions.. Use of Artificial Intelligence tools selectively allowed in this subject. The faculty may indicate a list of works and exercises that the student can perform using AI tools, specifying how they should be used, and how the student should describe the use made of them. If the use of AI by the student gives rise to academic fraud by falsifying the results of an exam or work required to accredit academic performance, the provisions of the Regulation of the University Carlos III of Madrid of partial development of the Law 3/2022, of February 24th, of University Coexistence will be applied.
