Objectives
The aim of this course is to provide the student with a basic knowledge of Spain's rich contemporary arts and culture. By the end of the course the student is expected to: - Be acquainted with the main movements, artists and works of different disciplines of Spanish arts and literature. - Be able to connect those movements and works with their historical, social, ideological and political context. - Analyze an artistic, literary or filmic work in terms of both their content and their formal and aesthetic elements. - Appreciate and enjoy the rich variety of Spanish contemporary culture.
Description of contents: programme
1. Spanish painting and sculpture from Goya to our days. 2. Spanish architecture in the 20th and 21st centuries. 3. Spanish literature from the 19th century to our days. 4. Spanish cinema from its origins to the digital era.
Learning activities and methodology
The contents of the course will be convered through lectures, individual and group assignments, and museum and city visits.
